This semester has been a journey of personal and professional growth for me, marked by stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing new challenges. One of the most impactful experiences I had was my practicum at the National Zoo, where I had the opportunity to design and execute my research project. Presenting my findings to the zoo staff was a pivotal moment that highlighted the growth I had undergone throughout my time there.
Collaboration with both the nutrition and birdhouse staff taught me invaluable lessons in coordination and communication. I learned how to effectively articulate my needs, conduct thorough research, and convey my findings to others. This experience has improved my ability to work collaboratively and demonstrated the importance of clear communication in achieving common goals.
Furthermore, my immersion in various aspects of zoo operations, from nutrition to commissary duty, to keeper duties, broadened my understanding of the intricacies involved in running a zoo successfully. Each task I undertook provided me with new insights and skills that have enriched my professional skills.
Perhaps most significantly, my time at the zoo allowed me to connect with professionals in the field and gain valuable insights into potential career paths. Interacting with individuals who are passionate about conservation and animal welfare inspired me to explore avenues where I can contribute meaningfully to environmental sustainability.
Looking ahead, I am eager to continue expanding my knowledge of the world around me and to become a resource for my community in creating environmental solutions. This semester has ignited a passion within me to pursue a career path that aligns with my values and aspirations. I am committed to furthering my education and experiences to make a positive impact on the world around me.
Overall, this semester has been transformative in shaping both my personal and professional growth. Through my experiences at the National Zoo and beyond, I have gained valuable skills, insights, and connections that have equipped me to pursue my goals with confidence and determination. As I reflect on this journey, I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and the opportunities for continued learning and development.
